He always came to class very prepared and lectured effortlessly to the class. He has to be the most well-spoken professor at UCI. The only critique I could possibly give was that the midterm and final paper were almost too easy. I feel like the exams should have pulled more from the readings or a few finer points from lectures.”

Rylan is extremely relateable, and uses this to connect with his students in a way that I feel most professors struggle with. This class has been a complete joy, and I would highly recommend it to any and all students. Engages with ideas critically and in uncommon ways. And best of all, he's assembled a course where every lesson matters. There's no fi ller material; that is eliminated by having several excellent, excellent panels incorporating appearances from an international set of police practitioners. I mean, it doesn't get better than this. The course is just amazing and anyone who takes it is guaranteed to have very fond memories of it. There was only one class I felt was worth commuting 90 miles two days a week for, and this was it.”
